Y’all. These are awesome. I seriously have no words to describe how delicious these are.
This is the second recipe I’ve made from Christmas with Paula Deen, and both have been fantastic. (And both have ended with me eating icing with a spoon.) These don’t have the texture of actual Oreos; they are much softer and have a cream cheese filling, so I guess they are more like chocolate sandwich cookies. I just like the name “homemade Oreos” better. But whatever you want to call them, they are incredible and you should make them ASAP.

1 box chocolate cake mix
2 eggs
1/3 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350°. Line 2 or 3 baking pans with parchment paper.
Mix cake mix, eggs, and oil on low speed with an electric mixer until combined. Dough will be very stiff. Roll dough into 1-inch balls (about the size of a gum ball) and space evenly on prepared pans. Flatten slightly with fingers. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cookies will look cracked and an indentation will remain when lightly touched. Cool for a minute or two on the baking sheet and then remove to wire racks to cool completely. Spread filling on half the cookies, and sandwich together. Store in the refrigerator.
Filling:
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter, softened
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla (use clear if you have it)
Cream cream cheese and butter together until well mixed, 2 or 3 minutes. On low speed, gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla. Use immediately and store leftovers in the refrigerator.
